Comme Des Fuckdown

This weekend Michael Miller invited me to the opening of his Photography Exhibit at KNOWN GALLERY to celebrate the release of his book, West Coast Hip-Hop: A History In Pictures.
A Los Angeles native, Miller is responsible for many the iconic photographs that define 1990s West Coast Hip-Hop: Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Warren G, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, et al… With thousands of portraits and over 300 album covers, his portfolio is like KDAY come to life, and I was honoured to meet such a prolific music historian and see his incredible work.
The exhibit was only open to the public this weekend, but you can buy Michael Miller’s book at Over The Edge, and you can find my photos from the opening reception at The Cobrasnake.

2011

I considered making a new video of all of 2011, but you’ll have to wait until the 4th of July to see how this one ends.

This time of year everyone is so cloying and sentimental — theatrics about a new beginning, about the past and the future, and all that has changed… It’s ridiculous! Every day is a new opportunity to change your life, and instead of looking to the past with an affected sentimentality or to the future with confused idealism, just wake up and do your best. That’s all you have to do.

When I show this video to friends their first comment is always the same, “can you slow it down? It’s going too fast!”  It’s life, it doesn’t slow down…

Inside the mind of Mr. Brainwash
I shot something like 1,000 photos of the insanity that was the Mr. Brainwash Studio opening last week. The entire building was literally bleeding with colour. Look for the rest of the photos later this week on The Cobrasnake. Inside the mind of Mr. Brainwash

I photographed Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta) in Hollywood last week. We talked about my photos of the party at his studio last month and his exhibition that opens tonight.

“You can disappear here without even knowing it.” — Bret Easton Ellis
On my balcony in The Hills overlooking Los Angeles, re-read Less Than Zero on a beautiful sunny day… my bookmark is a note some girl gave me as a reminder years ago. Trying to separate visuals from the film, the imagery the book creates, and my own memories… but it’s almost Christmas in L.A. and they all seem to bleed together.

I LOVE THE KITTY!
I’ve had a pretty incredible Halloween — it’s a weeklong event in Los Angeles, not just a day — and this year it feels a lot Coachella… but with less clothes and more latex. I have thousands of photos I’m posting on TheCobrasnake.com so check it out for some of the best and sexiest parties in Hollywood.
Then it’s back to business as usual…
