Adding “for a girl” to any statement is reductive, dismissive bullshit. To say someone is an amazing photographer, designer, DJ, writer, soccer player, web developer, whatever for a girl creates an arbitrary qualifier that diminishes the statement… We should all strive to be excellent in whatever we do, to be the best, period! Everything that comes after “the best” is just an excuse.

Kayper is an amazing DJ, one of the best (and I know the best). Her set at the Neon Carnival was probably the best part of Coachella this year, she’s got incredible skills and spins at the best and most exclusive events around the world. Which is why I hate when I hear people say she’s one of the best female DJs around, or she’s an amazing DJ for a girl. Like so many other artists, musicians, programmers, athletes, whatever — she’s amazing for a girl… or for a guy, or an Asian, or an octupus, or an android… she’s one of the best. Period.
