In order for a “viral video” to be a viral video it needs to go viral.  I’d be interested in hearing the author’s perspective on how to do this.  Simply putting it up on YouTube and Facebook (as the author seems to suggest) is not an answer.

Mike, I used to work for a company based entirely on the premise of your statement (and refuting the assumption of his). The last thing I did before I left was this report of Viral Video Marketing Trends. It’s a really big conversation, and in a lot of ways the social video (viral video) landscape is like the wild west - it often seems like clients just don’t want to “get it.” We would see huge brands - household names - that would spend millions annually on old-media advertising and have less than a hundred total views on their online videos and brand channels.
