Whitehouse.gov switches to open source, surprisingly the country is still in shambles
Whitehouse.gov has switched its backend CMS to Drupal, a free, open-source development platform. I find this slightly interesting as a developer, but really all I see is an excellent, advanced tool to present a wealth of information about inaction.
It’s been a year since the election… a hard year since we all shed tears of joy and celebrated in the streets, cheered as we “changed the world,” and talked about making history. And nine months after the new administration took over nothing significant has happened. The economy sucks, we’re right where we started with health care (which is where we’re going to stay as long as Lobbyists own Congress), domestic and global energy needs should be a primary concern and we haven’t touched them, civil liberties (you know, gay dudes and girls kissing and shooting enemies) are a “a top priority” that nobody wants to touch with a fifty foot pole, all while we’re sending more troops to fight more unwinnable wars… so it’s really hard to get excited because the White House that “gets” YouTube and facebook comments.
I’m really tired of hearing about health care - it’s an important issue, but meaningless if our quality of life and well-being as a nation doesn’t change, and all of these other issues have a much greater and more lasting impact on the U.S. (right now) than insurance premiums. I feel like we’re standing on the Titanic fumbling around with a fucking first-aid kit while the entire ship is sinking, but I guess it’s cool because the White House is excited to twitter at us that the smoke their blowing up our asses is now much more eco-friendly.
I don’t want to hear anymore about how hard it is - no shit it’s hard, so lets fucking do it, and I don’t want to hear that “it takes time” because we’re out of time. To take a line from the guys who save the day, “Your best?! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen.”
