bbook:tumblangeles:iamafungirl:los angeles in motion. so incredible.
Maybe this is old, but Angelenos, this is wonderful. Truly.
LA has a strange kind of beauty that you often have to look hard (or contextualize hard) to find. It’s not readily evident. But when you find it, the revelation that Los Angeles - a city often written off as too big, too sprawling, too superficial - is one of the most strangely beautiful cities in the world, it’s pretty staggering.
I guess this is kind of cute, it looks like the intro to Jay Leno or a commercial for the Heartbeat of America™ - it’s time-lapse photography of tourist traps and traffic, the two things most Angelenos could do without.
I’ve lived in LA for almost a decade and I don’t think there’s anything strange about the city’s beauty, a de Kooning is strangely beautiful, Los Angeles is drop dead gorgeous from sunrise to sunrise, from the beach to desert, and you don’t need to look hard to find the beauty, on the contrary it’s impossible to ignore. I was raised in another state and I’ve visited quite a few places around the country, they all have a unique charm but none have held a flamethrower to the wondrous spectacle that is LA. I could list everything I love about the city, the hundreds of things that make it anything but superficial, the amazing sights and sounds and stories that are created here every day… but instead, with genuine curiosity, I welcome anyone to share why they think this town is so unpretty or so “strangely beautiful.”
