Comme Des Fuckdown

The first issue of NYLON (originally via ameliamagritte and icanmakewaffles)
The look of this first issue is amazing, it’s unmistakably David Carson in all of the right ways. Though i would say the first issue of NYLON was really just the first issue of Ray Gun, Marvin’s most groundbreaking magazine… they serve different demographics (which is why NYLON is successful), but visually and conceptually it’s just an evolution of Marvin and David Carson’s early work which has most recently been refreshed by Stephen Walker and Mickey Pangilinan. I’m friends with Marvin, his ability to constantly know what’s going to be cool is remarkable and completely enviable. David is great, and more than anyone he is credited with changing graphic design as we know it, but I always preferred Martin Venezky, who was doing the same work as Carson, but with a greater edge.
