Amoeba killed all of the great record stores in LA (my favorite was Arons). A lot of people who pretend to love vinyl love Amoeba and its deceptively huge collection of records but the prices are inflated because of the monopoly they created by crushing all of the competition and much worse, there are over a hundred employees who get to dig through the crates before a single record hits the sales floor, so the shelves are crammed with 37 copies of every Usher or Linkin Park EP imaginable, but you have a better chance of finding a rare (or even a decent) pressing at Target.

And I have to give a shout out to my childhood record store, hang out, and history classroom, BOW WOW Records in Albuquerque. I bought my first Clash record there, my Handsome Boy… even my Donnas and Blink 182 CDs (back when Travis was still in the Aquabats). Strong men also cry Mr. Lebowski… strong men also cry.
